Library Lock-In

Snowball Fight! 1940sImage by Duke Yearlook via Flickr
We're planning an overnight in the library during winter break and we want you to come. We'll stay up late, have a snowball fight in the dark, watch scary movies, eat popcorn, ingest caffeine, have an ugly pajama fashion show competition, build forts, decorate t-shirts, play spectacular games, and more.

Which night do you want it to be? VOTE IN SIDEBAR TO THE RIGHT--------->

You will need a signed permission slip which you can pick up in the library the week before the event. Only open to youth ages 10-19. More details to come.

Put your activity and movie ideas in the comments!

Come to the YAAP meeting this Sunday to help plan the even.

A Game, A Video, and A Comic

Try to stump the computer in this online version of Twenty Questions. Think of a person, place, or thing, then answer up to twenty questions. There are versions for Harry Potter, Disney, Star Trek, and the Simpsons. http://www.20q.net/ You can even use kind of obscure people like John or Hank Green of the Nerdfighters.

Never heard of the Nerdfighters? Two brothers decided to forbid all textual communication with each other for a whole year and made videos for each other every other day. They developed a following of people who celebrate being nerdy and geeky in a lot of ways. They have an evil baby orphanage, secret siblings, projects for awesome, and Hank writes amazing songs about nerdy things. Their motto is DFTBA: Don't Forget to Be Awesome, and their purpose is to "Decrease World Suck."Their YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/vlogbrothers?ob=4 or their Ning social networking site http://nerdfighters.ning.com/

YAAP TAB TAG - you're it!

Now that we have the kickoff event out of the way, it's time to think about getting down to business. We need a leadership group that will make decisions about how to spend money.
  • When should we provide snacks and what should they be?
  • What gaming hardware do we still need?
  • How should we decide which games and books and movies to buy?
  • How can we provide interesting things to do for the younger and older sets of t(w)eens?
  • What programs should we offer first? Do we want to pay people to lead them?
  • What kinds of fundraising will we do and when?
  • How can we make the teen space a place you want to hang out?
We also need to come up with some kind of behavior guidelines as a group. Stuff like how to be fair about turns on the gaming systems, how to make sure we don't damage anything, how to make sure people feel welcome and safe in the library. Sounds dorky, but if we don't do it things could get messy.

Put your comments in comments or show up on Sundays from 4-5pm to be part of the discussions.
